Reflection

Today, we started our powerpoint presentation. We will probably finish it by the end of the june holidays!

Reflection

We are going to work together to do this powerpoint presentation most likely we would be going to en yi's or jairus's house to do the project.

Reflection

Today we did more on the powerpoint slide for IPW. We will be doing it over the holidays as much as possible...

reflection 15

the powerpoint presentation seems very well done so far and i like it a lot, we should be done before the june holidays

Reflection

Today we discussed on how to make the powerpoint. We might be doing it on google docoments

Lesson 15 reflection

For this week, we learnt that we have to do a powerpoint presentation about our experiment. We will come up with a presentation after our SA1 and will have it done by after the june holidays!

Lesson 14 reflection

Today, we discussed about how to do our report. We will focus on our studies and do the project after our exams are over.

Lesson 14 Reflection

Today we discussed on what we are planning to do for the report.. As SA1 is coming we will do the report after the exams.

Lesson 13 reflection

Today, we got the other team's suggestion on how to further improve our products. We have taken their advice on how to improve our product and come up with a better one!

Lesson 13 Reflection

Today, we discussed with the other team on how to improve our product to make it more appealing to the public.

Lesson 11 reflection

Today, we planned to make the product more attractive! We plan to paint it and will soon have the picture of the new and improved product!

Experiment video

Here is a video about our project(this is just a preview, we will make another video when we can get some strong wind to power up the wind mill. We also plan to fix the rotor as when we handed it to Jeremiah, he sort of brought back a spoiled one... The video shows the rotor blade hitting the bottle. That is not suppose to happen sorry..

Lesson 10 Reflection

Today, I typed out the description of the product and find that the product is still in good shape except that the rotor is with Jeremiah and his house is very messy. I am worried that he will lose the rotor. If that happens, we will have to make a new rotor and we find the product acceptable. We will try to improve the wind mill's looks and colour etc.

Week 10 Reflection

Now that we posted the discussion of the product, we are very aware of our project details and will work towards completing it.

Discussion of Product

Contents: 1 rotor, 1 rotor shaft 1 front-housing 1 back-housing, 2 half-screw caps,1 tail, 1 toy motor with gear generator, 1 motor cover, 8 small screws 1 LED lamp unit with wires,1 gears with metal shaft.

Assembling
1. Slide the long end of the metal shaft of the gear through the front housing. A little cooking oil in the shaft will reduce friction. Push the rotor shaft onto the metal shaft, making sure that the gear can still spin freely.
2. Fix the LED unit to the lower part of the front housing
3. Thread the wires through the bottom hole in the back housing.
4. Push the two halves of the housing together and secure them with four screws.
5. Assemble the two half screw caps around the lower part of the housing, and secure them with two screws. Put al little cooking oil on the top of the caps to help the housing turn freely.
6. Connect the red wire and black wire to the metal tags on the motor. The LED will not work if they are connected the other way round. With the plastic base of the motor facing you and the metal tags facing down, the red wire should be at your left and the black wire at your right. Thread the exposed end of each wire through at your right. Thread the exposed end of each wire through the hole in its tag, bend it over and gently twist it to secure it.
7. Insert the gear end of the motor into the housing as shown. Gently press it into place so that the teeth on the gear wheels interlock. ADd the motor cover and secure with two screws.
8. Push the rotor onto the rotor shaft.
9. Push the tail into the hole at the back of the motor cover.
10. The screw cap will fit most bottles. Recycle a bottle by emptying and cleaning it and screw the screw cap onto it. Your windmill is now complete.

We have done a survey and are waiting for the results

regarding survey results

I hope everyone who did the survey gave an unbiased opinion on their project so that we can improve on it or make up for its flaws.Based on the survey results I think that our windmill has a low power rating as it is too small to generate any electricity at all,the materials used to make it look fragile and unstable, therefore many people labeled it as a cheap and not useful product some of them would also not want to use it even if it is their only source of electricity.Overall I think the windmill is not very good as a product, however I do not think it is a failure as we could still modify and improve on it.We would discuss as a group our next IPW lesson how to make the windmill more productive and attractive(one of them said the windmill looked ugly).Time is running out and we need to work harder to get the results we want.

Survey Results

Lesson 8 Reflection

Today we have finished our survey and we are going to post the survey soon

Sunday, February 28, 2010

lesson 6 reflection

This week we created a survey to gain a better understanding of the opinion of others on the product. We asked questions based on the following key points.

-the application of the product
-the usefulness of the product
-the lifespan of the product

we thought that the looks of the product should not be one of the keypoints as if customers buy this product they would be more concerned if they would be able to use it efficiently and how long they can use it.

Lesson 6 Reflection

I felt that this lesson was very beneficial as we created a survey about our project and would know what our classmates think about it.I look forward to seeing the results and improving our project further.

Lesson 6 Reflection

I felt that today's IPW period was use wisely as we came up with a survey

and will ask our classmates and friends to see how we can improve our project

Lesson 5

Reflection

I feel that the project was a failure because the bulb could barely light up even when we spun the windmill very hard.We need to find better materials, such as a new rotor and motor,so that the bulb would be brighter and remain lit for a longer time.
We can make use of the wind energy from a standing fan because it provides a strong wind energy for the windmill to move. We can try placing the windmill at a higher point so there will be more wind energy to be transformed to light energy.

Reflection

We created a blog and posted some things about our experiment. We posted about a lot of pictures about the windmill we created. If the wind was stronger we would have been able to make the light bulb light up for a longer time
James Chong

lesson 4 reflection

We created the windmill however the light the bulb produces is not very strong, maybe by decreasing the resistance of the bulb the light can be stronger.By modifying the blades on the windmill perharps the blades would be more sensitive to the wind,ex:increasing the amount of blades, tilting the blade to a certain angle.

Lesson 4 Reflection

In my opinion our project was almost complete however, we find that the blades of the wind mill is not really sensitive to wind and we want to try out different materials to see if it can help. We also will try to change the motor in the wind mill to see if a stronger motor will produce more light

Progress

Today, we have used our IPW period to brainstorm about what kind of topic we will chose and to go on one of the days to go someone's house to test the project. We chose the topic global warming as now, global warming is one of the raising problems on Earth and thus we would like to save the earth by helping out in the environment and how to improve electronic gadgets to solar powered gadgets. We have chosen the project "Solar Oven". In which we will place the gadget in the sun and see if it can heat up food like eggs, bread or see if it can melt chocolate. We will be going to one of our member's house to do this project and hopefully it will work.
