Lesson 10 Reflection

Today, I typed out the description of the product and find that the product is still in good shape except that the rotor is with Jeremiah and his house is very messy. I am worried that he will lose the rotor. If that happens, we will have to make a new rotor and we find the product acceptable. We will try to improve the wind mill's looks and colour etc.

Week 10 Reflection

Now that we posted the discussion of the product, we are very aware of our project details and will work towards completing it.

Discussion of Product

Contents: 1 rotor, 1 rotor shaft 1 front-housing 1 back-housing, 2 half-screw caps,1 tail, 1 toy motor with gear generator, 1 motor cover, 8 small screws 1 LED lamp unit with wires,1 gears with metal shaft.

Assembling
1. Slide the long end of the metal shaft of the gear through the front housing. A little cooking oil in the shaft will reduce friction. Push the rotor shaft onto the metal shaft, making sure that the gear can still spin freely.
2. Fix the LED unit to the lower part of the front housing
3. Thread the wires through the bottom hole in the back housing.
4. Push the two halves of the housing together and secure them with four screws.
5. Assemble the two half screw caps around the lower part of the housing, and secure them with two screws. Put al little cooking oil on the top of the caps to help the housing turn freely.
6. Connect the red wire and black wire to the metal tags on the motor. The LED will not work if they are connected the other way round. With the plastic base of the motor facing you and the metal tags facing down, the red wire should be at your left and the black wire at your right. Thread the exposed end of each wire through at your right. Thread the exposed end of each wire through the hole in its tag, bend it over and gently twist it to secure it.
7. Insert the gear end of the motor into the housing as shown. Gently press it into place so that the teeth on the gear wheels interlock. ADd the motor cover and secure with two screws.
8. Push the rotor onto the rotor shaft.
9. Push the tail into the hole at the back of the motor cover.
10. The screw cap will fit most bottles. Recycle a bottle by emptying and cleaning it and screw the screw cap onto it. Your windmill is now complete.

Week 8 reflection

We have done a survey and are waiting for the results

regarding survey results

I hope everyone who did the survey gave an unbiased opinion on their project so that we can improve on it or make up for its flaws.Based on the survey results I think that our windmill has a low power rating as it is too small to generate any electricity at all,the materials used to make it look fragile and unstable, therefore many people labeled it as a cheap and not useful product some of them would also not want to use it even if it is their only source of electricity.Overall I think the windmill is not very good as a product, however I do not think it is a failure as we could still modify and improve on it.We would discuss as a group our next IPW lesson how to make the windmill more productive and attractive(one of them said the windmill looked ugly).Time is running out and we need to work harder to get the results we want.

Lesson 8 Reflection

Today we have finished our survey and we are going to post the survey soon
